Close the champagne
The RAI Association and Bovag are undertaking a forecast for Dutch car sales in 2023. This is slightly higher than this year, but that says a lot about 2022.
Bovag and RAI Association expect that around 340,000 new passenger cars will be sold in the Netherlands by 2023. This will most likely result in a small plus compared to this year, although this year’s forecast has only been adjusted downwards due to disappointing sales figures.
The slight hope for 2023 is a result of an expected improvement in consumer confidence, partly thanks to government intervention in the energy crisis. In addition, it is expected that car manufacturers will more often succeed in actually building ordered cars, because it will become slightly less difficult to get parts.
2022 will probably end with 300,000 to 320,000 new cars, after 370,000 were previously assumed. In any case, it is even worse than last year, when 322,831 cars were sold. 2020 was slightly better, with 355,431 units. In comparison: before that, in 2019, more than 450,000 cars were sold. In 2011, there were 560,000, in 1999 even more than 611,000.
