British car sales almost completely collapsed in April

New car sales in the UK dropped to their lowest point since just after World War II last month. The corona crisis and the accompanying measures are of course the cause.

In the UK, people should stay at home as much as possible, just like here. There, however, there are slightly stricter rules on various details and that is also evident from the sales figures. Non-essentials, such as buying a new car, have been completely sidelined. Dealers have had to close the doors and the sale of new cars almost exclusively takes place online. The British see that in the figures; As many as 97 percent fewer new cars were sold in April than in the same month a year ago.

In absolute numbers, the number of new cars sold is about the same level as February 1946, Reuters reports. Then just over 4,044 new cars were sold in the UK. At that time, the war had not even ended a year, purchasing power was very low and, in relative terms, far fewer new cars were sold anyway.
