Racing at Silverstone

After Red Bull’s home race, it is time for the home race of Lewis Hamilton, Aston Martin and McLaren, among others. There is only a good chance that it will be another Dutch party at Silverstone, with Max Verstappen and Red Bull in top form.
Times British GP
After the sprint race weekend in Austria, it is now time for a classic race weekend again. That just means qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Due to the time difference, the British Grand Prix starts an hour later than last Sunday’s race, namely at 4 p.m. Dutch time.
| Day | Session | Time (Dutch time) |

Championship standings
Not surprisingly, Max Verstappen has further extended his lead at the top of the championship. Austria was also a boost for teammate Sergio Pérez; after several disappointing weekends he has once again secured a podium place and that helps in the battle for second place in the World Cup. Fernando Alonso falls back slightly and Lewis Hamilton had a downright disappointing weekend in Austria.
| Driver | Pt. |
| 1. Max Verstappen – Red Bull | 229 |
| 2. Sergio Perez – Red Bull | 148 |
| 3. Fernando Alonso – Aston Martin | 131 |
| 4.Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes | 106 |
| 5. Carlos Sainz – Ferrari | 82 |

| 7.George Russell-Mercedes | 72 |
| 8. Lance Stroll – Aston Martin | 44 |
| 9. Esteban Ocon – Alpine | 31 |
| 10. Pierre Gasly – Alpine | 16 |
With the constructors, Aston Martin has caught up with Mercedes and Ferrari is in turn a bit closer to Aston Martin. Given the varying performances of those three teams, it remains to be seen who will eventually take second place this year. It also looks more favorable for McLaren after the updates. It seems that Alpine now has to focus more on McLaren than on the teams above them in the standings.
| Constructor | Pt. |

| Mercedes | 178 |
| Aston Martin | 175 |
| Ferrari | 154 |

Circuit
The British Grand Prix has been held continuously at Silverstone since 1987. Formula 1 raced for the first time on this famous circuit in England as early as 1950. In fact, the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix ever counted for the FIA World Championship was held here. Silverstone started out as a training airfield in World War II, but was later turned into a racing track. The circuit is 5.891 km long in its current layout and is partly thanks to the famous Magotts and Becketscorner combination particularly popular with many Formula 1 drivers.

Coming Sunday, the drivers will drive a total of 52 laps over Silverstone, for a total race distance of more than 306 km. There are two DRS zones: the first between Turns 5 and 6 (between Arena and Brooklands), the second between Turns 14 and 15, on the straight along the old pit lane. The fastest race lap is in the name of Max Verstappen; in 2020 Verstappen clocked a time of 1:27.097. Carlos Sainz won the British GP last year, his first and so far only victory ever in Formula 1. He trumped Sergio Pérez, who finished just four seconds behind Sainz. Lewis Hamilton took third place in his home race. It was no party for Max Verstappen at Silverstone last year; he was seventh with a debris-damaged car.
Weather forecast
It seems to be fairly typical English summer weather at Silverstone this coming weekend. This means that there is a chance of showers, especially on Saturday and Sunday, but there are also sunnier periods. The chance of precipitation is greatest on Saturday. It is not too hot at 20 to 23 degrees.
