Bugatti surprised friend and foe last week by showing part of a mysterious new car. It seems to be a hypercar for the World Endurance Championship.
Just a week ago, a rear of an as-yet-unknown car suddenly appeared on Bugatti’s social media channels. With the description ‘what if …?’ Bugatti didn’t exactly provide much clarity. However, it now seems that it should be; ‘what if we entered the WEC?’ Because there is this weekend spotted a camouflaged Bugatti at Circuit Paul Ricard which is without a doubt the car in question. That betrays the fact that the rear lights look exactly like in the teaser photo and that it is a completely unknown Bugatti.
Not only the carriage of the Bugatti betrays that this is a racing-oriented model, because the brand itself has also sent out a mysterious message that points to this; the number ‘0.67’. That almost certainly refers to the ratio between weight and power. The hypercars for the 2021 season of the WEC (and therefore also the 24 hours of Le Mans) must weigh at least 1,030 kilos and have a maximum of 670 hp at their disposal. A quick calculation shows that this produces a power-to-weight ratio of about 0.67 hp per kilo. On Wednesday we know for sure, because then Bugatti will show the car himself.
