More concept violence comes from the American Buick. Its Chinese arm has presented the Electra Concept, a fully electrically powered study with a well-known name.
Buick parks the Electra Concept in China, a car for which the brand has mothballed an old trusted model name. ‘Electra’ was used between 1959 and 1990 for six generations of a relatively highly positioned model family, of which various body styles were supplied over the years. Where the old Electra’s never had less than six six-cylinder and mostly V8’s under the hood, the Electra Concept is much more a child of this time. The Electra Concept is a futuristic-looking SUV-like with a fully electric powertrain.
The Electra Concept, according to its creators, in a way gives away what Buick at least in China in the future in the EV plan. The study model is topped with a design language that Buick calls ‘Potential Energy’. More interesting are the strikingly upward-opening doors and the smooth-looking carriage. The model stands relatively high on its 23-inch wheels, which makes it look like an SUV, although the shape of the body suggests that the show car developed by SAIC-GM is more of a sedan. Buick describes the show debutant as a ‘four-seater crossover with a GT look’. Ah. The headlights contain LED matrix viewers, and are not the front engie lights. We also observe LED technology lower in the muzzle. Striking is the place where the ‘glassware’ already starts: almost halfway where the bonnet would normally be. The interior, just like the exterior, is quite simplistic. You will not find much more than a futuristic-looking steering wheel and a curved display.
Underneath the skin lies General Motors’ Ultium battery technology, hardware in which different modules in the battery pack communicate with each other via Wi-Fi and which means that considerably less wiring is required. In addition, the Ultium batteries would contain up to 70 percent less cobalt than the more conventional ones. The battery pack with an unspecified capacity would be good for a range of 660 kilometers. Two electric motors together provide a combined power of 593 hp. The Electra Concept sprints to a speed of 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds.
