Burgernet is being improved. The sleuth app now also shows photos and the GPS location of a suspect, which makes tracking a lot easier.
Update: This is how Burgernet will show photos
This is reported by the Dutch police on its website. Anyone who receives a report from Burgernet from now on will immediately see a photo of the person being sought. The sleuth app of the Dutch police is getting an update, with which the Control Room can send images. The GPS location of the searched’s smartphone is also shared.
It will also be possible for citizens to send photos to the Control Room via the app. In this way, the Police get a clearer picture of the wanted person. The new location function is used to alert citizens in the immediate vicinity, for example in the event of a missing person.
Calls can now also be shared directly via social media and WhatsApp groups, such as those in your neighbourhood. You can also reach the Control Room via Facebook Messenger, which was not possible before. As a result, you can now pass on information via the Burgernet app, Twitter, multiple social media channels and via text or telephone.

Burgernet in public areas
Finally, the police announce that from now on missing persons will be displayed on matrix signs and illuminated messages (indications). You will mainly find these in public areas, the bus or tram. Thefts and robberies are not shown this way.
Burgernet is an initiative of the Dutch police, citizens and municipalities to lend a helping hand to the poor of the law. The detection network works very simply. Participants receive a call to help search for a person or vehicle in their area and can pass on tips directly to the control room.
Burgernet is mainly used for missing persons, thefts and robberies in the vicinity. According to the police, the network already has more than 2.4 million participants. The app is free to download.
