On Thursday evening at 17:30 there was no less than 1,227 kilometers of traffic jam. The evening rush hour has never been so busy this year. According to ANWB Traffic Information, especially in the Randstad and in North Brabant, the traffic jams were considerably longer than normal.
Like the morning and evening rush hours of Tuesdays, those on Thursdays are normally very busy. The fact that it was difficult today is partly due to the combination of rainy weather and the fact that it gets dark early.
In September, ANWB Traffic Information already foresaw that it would be a period with busy rush hours and therefore many traffic jams. There are more delays than in pre-corona year 2019, even outside peak times. The peak of traffic jams is now about half an hour later than before. Before the evening rush of November 3 got the dubious honor of being the busiest of the year, that title was in the name of Tuesday morning, September 27. Then there was 925 kilometers of traffic jam.
