The biggest even bigger

Since this year, the Chinese BYD has only been building cars with a plug, but that does not do BYD any harm. Both sales and profits have shot up by hundreds of percent this year.
According to Reuters, BYD sold 1.2 million vehicles in the first three quarters of this year, which in this case are all EVs and PHEVs. Compared to last year, ‘Build Your Dreams’ sold no less than 250 percent more plug-in cars. BYD was already the world’s largest player in plug-in cars and is now extending its lead. Even if we look at last year’s total, including the fuel cars still available at the time, there is already a significant plus: in 2021 a total of 730,093 cars rolled out of the showroom. In that year there was also an increase of almost 232 percent in the sale of so-called ‘New Energy Vehicles’, a line that is now being continued.
The much higher sales figures result in more profit for BYD. That seems logical, but it is certainly not always the case in China. BYD expects for the third quarter a profit of between 776 and 833 million euros, according to Reuters 333 to 365 percent more than in the same period last year. The profit is partly due to the larger and therefore more expensive models, such as the BYD Han.
BYD has just launched in Europe, so there seems to be plenty of potential for further growth.
