The Chinese BYD presents the Ocean-X-Concept, the next step based on its new electric E-platform 3.0.
Contrary to what the ‘X’ in its name suggests, the Ocean-X is not an SUV. According to BYD, it is a medium-sized, sporty sedan, although unfortunately only one image is available. The car is equipped with BYD’s smart ‘blade batteries’, which, by packaging the cells in a smart way, would use space much more efficiently than regular EV batteries. The batteries are also integrated into the body for increased rigidity.
BYD promises a range of 1,000 km and states that the Ocean-X will pop from 0 to 100 in 2.9 seconds. The brand also promises a very efficient car and states that the concept car has few problems with load losses, heat or cold. For a possible production version, BYD will probably have to come up with a new name, because otherwise the newcomer will collide with the also electric Fisker Ocean.
The new electric E-platform 3.0 is of course modular. According to BYD, it is suitable for electric cars ‘from small to large’. It is also available to other manufacturers, as BYD previously announced. Earlier we already received the EA1, a compact hatchback, presented on this basis. By the way, BYD is certainly no longer a far-from-the-bed show, but has concrete European plans and is already working on a market strategy for the Netherlands. Electric buses from this Chinese car giant are already driving around at Schiphol.
