BYD registers electric MPV in Europe

The Chinese Build Your Dreams (BYD) wants nothing more than to sink its teeth into the European car market. Via the Louwman Group, the Chinese car manufacturer will sell an electric SUV in the Netherlands, among other things. An electric MPV from BYD may also come to our part of the world.

Louwman Group brings the Tang to the Dutch market, a 4.9 meter long electric SUV with a 272 hp electric heart and an 86.4 kWh battery that enables a range of up to 400 kilometers. In time, several models of BYD should appear on the Dutch road via Louwman Group. Earlier we wrote about the BYD Han EV and now AutoWeek has found possible evidence of an electric MPV coming to Europe.

Denza D9

AutoWeek has found patent drawings in the database of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) that indicate that BYD has registered the design of a new MPV in Europe (photos 10 to 15). Or actually: from a new MPV from Denza. That requires a brief explanation. Denza is a brand that started life in 2010 as a partnership between BYD and Mercedes-Benz/Daimler. Denza launched the 400 on the Chinese market in 2014, a curiously designed electrically powered combination of an MPV and a sedan based on the platform of the B-class. That Denza 400 was facelifted in 2018 and from then on went through life as a 500. In 2019, Denza added a plug-in hybrid SUV to its range: the X. Daimler sold part of its stake in Denza to BYD in 2021, with the result that Daimler now owns 10 percent and BYD the remaining 90 percent of the brand. has hands. That is why the MPV that stars in this article is registered as BYD, but is actually a Denza.

The Denza 500, just like the Denza 400, a stubborn electric MPV-like with a sedan butt.

We are dealing here with a car that was presented in China as Denza D9. The 5.25-metre-long Denza D9 is available as a ‘Super Hybrid’ (photo 7) a plug-in hybrid that is available with various sizes of battery packs and with the largest fully electric pack it can reach a range of up to 180 kilometers. The combustion engine is a blown 1.5. You can also see this Denza D9 Super Hybrid on these patent plates, but the version with the vertical bars and a closed grille is perhaps even more interesting. That is in fact a fully electric version of the D9 with a range of more than 600 kilometers, although there are no detailed technical specifications available yet.

What do you think? Is there room on the Dutch market for a Chinese electric MPV?
