BYD is expanding its Dutch offering with the Seal U. The Seal U is an electric SUV that shares a large part of its name with the electric sedan Seal. However, with a starting price of €42,990, the BYD Seal U is a few thousand euros less expensive.
BYD already sells the Atto 3, the Han, the Tang, the Dolphin, the Seal and the ETP3 electric commercial vehicle in the Netherlands. An electric SUV has now been added: the BYD Seal U. The BYD Seal U was already presented last year and now we can tell you what it should cost. What seems? It is cheaper than the sedan Seal with which it shares a large part of its name.
Electric sedan BYD Seal is available in the Netherlands from €45,990, while SUV Seal U has a starting price of €42,990. However, the prices of the Seal and Seal U are not directly comparable. For example, the starting price of the Seal applies to the Design version, while the starting price of the Seal U goes hand in hand with the lower-positioned Comfort version in which the Seal is not available. The Seal and the Seal U also differ from each other on a technical level.
As mentioned, the starting price of €42,990 for the Seal U applies to the Comfort version. It has a 218 hp and 330 Nm strong electric motor that drives the front wheels. The battery pack of the Seal U Comfort is 71.8 kWh and gives the SUV a range of 420 kilometers. The entry-level version of the Seal (Design) has a 313 hp electric motor that drives the rear wheels and has a larger 82.5 kWh battery.
For those for whom the range of 420 kilometers is not sufficient, BYD also offers a Design version of the Seal U. It also has the 218 hp and 330 Nm strong electric motor, although it draws its zest for life from a larger 87 kWh battery. This combination gives the Seal U an electric range of 500 kilometers. The top speed of both versions is 175 km/h. Fast charging is possible with both variants with a maximum of 140 kW. Good news for those who want to claim SEPP purchase subsidy: you can qualify for this with both versions of the BYD Seal U. The first copies of the BYD Seal U will come to the Netherlands within a few months.
Prices BYD Seal U
Performance | Assets | Battery | Range | From price |
Comfort | 218 hp, 330 Nm | 71.8 kWh | 420 kilometers | €42,990 |
Design | 218 hp, 330 Nm | 87 kWh | 500 kilometers | €45,990 |
From Dynasty to Ocean
The BYD Seal You may share most of its name with the Seal, but in fact it technically has very little to do with it. The Seal U is basically an improved version of the BYD Song Plus. That is a model of BYD’s Ocean family – just like the Han and the Tang – while the Seal U is clearly linked to BYD’s Ocean series. In terms of appearance, the Seal U does show similarities with the Seal, among others.
BYD’s youngest electric SUV in the Netherlands is 4.79 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and has a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 552 liters. If you fold the back seat flat, you can carry 1,440 liters worth of stuff in the Seal U.
