BYD has quite caught the European taste. The range of electric BYDs is also growing steadily in the Netherlands and the brand is not slowing down for the time being. There may even be an electric supercar from the Chinese giant coming to Europe!

Before BYD introduced the electric Han and Tan to the Dutch market, you may already have known the brand from its electric city buses. In a short time, BYD’s range has become a lot larger. The more compact SUV BYD Atto 3 joined the ranks and then not only the BYD Dolphin, but also the BYD Seal came our way. Does BYD have any other plans? No doubt, and we may be able to tell you more about one of them.

Yang Wang U9

First of all, BYD offers a compact electric model in its home country of China, which could be very interesting for the Dutch market. We are talking about a 3.78 meter long compact hatchback that, like the Seal and Dolphin, is named after an animal that likes to spend its life in or around the sea: the Seagull. However, the BYD Seagull is not the car that plays the leading role in this article, that is the Yangwang U9. Yangwang is a brand new sub-brand of BYD with which it focuses on the premium corner of the car world. At the beginning of this year, BYD already presented the Yangwang U8 and the Yangwant U9. The first is a Defender-like SUV that will be available with a fully electric powertrain, but a plug-in hybrid variant will also appear. The Yangwang U9 is a car of a completely different order.

The Yangwang U9 is a fully electric hypercar. The Yangwang U9 has four electric motors with a total of 1,000 horsepower and must be able to catapult itself from standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in just 2 seconds. The Dutch importer previously told AutoWeek that there were no plans to bring Yangwang to Europe as yet. In the database of the European patent office and in that of the British patent office, we found evidence that BYD also recorded the design of the Yangwang U9 here. That could just indicate that there is more going on behind the scenes.

Do you see opportunities for the electric Yangwang U9 in Europe? Why or why not?
