Cadillac becomes official engine supplier in Formula 1

It’s official: Cadillac is joining Formula 1 as an engine supplier. That goes a lot further than it initially seemed, because they are actually going to develop the engine themselves.

At the beginning of this year, Cadillac expressed its intention to enter Formula 1 together with Andretti. Michael Andretti, the son of world champion Mario Andretti, would set up an F1 team and Cadillac would supply the engines. The latter seemed to be slightly different, because in reality they would be engines from Alpine (Renault) on which a Cadillac logo would be stuck. Now the high word is out and Cadillac appears to really be coming up with its own power sources.

Cadillac, or actually parent company General Motors, is now officially registered as an F1 engine supplier and will supply engines to Andretti’s Formula 1 team from 2028. At least that is the intention. Andretti still has to be formally admitted to Formula 1, although that is one step closer. It is still possible that Andretti will start in F1 as early as 2026 and still drive with Alpine engines for the first two years, and then switch to the Cadillac power source in 2028. In any case, Cadillac has already started the first testing work.
