Cadillac pulls the Escalade V out of the apparently huge top hat just before the weekend. It is the first V-version of Cadillac’s largest SUV ever.

We knew for a while that a Cadillac Escalade V was coming. The Americans apparently think the time is right to combine their best-known and largest SUV with their sports label, which has come a little lower on the ladder since the arrival of the Blackwing versions. We don’t know exactly what that means in the case of the Escalade. At Cadillac, they also want to go home quickly on Friday afternoon, so the brand will suffice with ‘dumping’ the photos and announcing that more information will follow in the spring.

There are whispers in the corridors that the car is powered by the 6.2-litre V8 from the CT5-V Blackwing. That engine produces 677 hp, but will of course have a little more trouble with the Escalade than with the CT5.

On the outside, the Escalade V, which for the time being only seems to come in ‘short’ standard trim, is decorated in a classic way. The car gets many black accents, a somewhat deeper front bumper and a fierce diffuser with four chutes of exhaust ends. ‘Not quite up to date’, we hear our typical Dutch brain remark sourly. However, there is also a bit of jealousy in it.
