What if…

Since Opel has been operating under the wings of Stellantis, General Motors has only played a role of extremely marginal importance in Europe. In the United States, the group is still fully active and, like many other car manufacturers, also has The General set its sights with precision on the Chinese market. Chevrolet has developed models specifically for the Chinese market and GM is going wild in China with luxury brands Buick and Cadillac. Cadillac has opened its gates to luxury top models with the Lyriq and Celestiq and even the Escalade is getting an electric version, but there is still room for more traditional motorized models. Cadillac recently updated the CT6 and the smaller XT4 and with this GT4 Cadillac adds a new and compact car to its line-up by Caddy standards. It also has petrol engines.
AutoWeek was able to present you the new Cadillac GT4 before, but now General Motors has also shared the first plates of it. After the XT4, the GT4 is the smallest Cadillac that currently exists, but it is of course not really small with its length of 4.68 meters. The GT4 is simply a good 20 centimeters longer than, say, a Nissan Qashqai. That GM, like almost every concern, is king of platform parts these days – and has been for a long time – is evident from the basis on which the GT4 stands. Cadillac’s newcomer is on the E2XX platform that also underlies the Chevrolet Malibu, Buick Envision and the now-defunct Opel Insignia and Buick Regal that is still alive. The smaller XT4 also uses that platform. That E2XX base is in turn a further development of the Epsilon 2 family that provided models such as the first Opel Insignia with something to hold on to.
The Cadillac GT4 has a slightly sloping roofline, has a wheelbase of 2.8 meters and is capped inside with digital indulgence. Behind the steering wheel is a considerably curved panel in which the digital instruments and infotainment system are housed. A colorful collection of leather and silver-colored visual frills? Also features, as well as an extensive audio system with fifteen speakers. The Cadillac GT4 comes with a 204 hp blown 1.5 petrol engine and with a more powerful 2.0 turbo engine that kicks it up to 230 hp. Both engine versions are available with front or all-wheel drive.
For the time being, the Cadillac GT4 is reserved for the Chinese market, as is the thoroughly renewed CT6 and many other newcomers from Buick and Cadillac. If we descend into a parallel universe in which Cadillac is still active in Europe, do you think the GT4 is an attractive alternative to cars such as the Audi Q5 and BMW X3? Why or why not?
