Cadillac wants to enter Formula 1 with Andretti

The high word is out: Cadillac does indeed want to enter Formula 1. It hooks up with Michael Andretti for this, so that an entirely new American Formula 1 team is in the making.

It has recently leaked out that Cadillac would be interested in participating in Formula 1. Now the confirmation is here. Michael Andretti, the son of former F1 world champion Mario Andretti, announces that he and Cadillac are going for it. Together they want to set up an entirely new Formula 1 team, with Cadillac most likely supplying the engines. The intended entry will most likely not be until 2026, when the new engine regulations will come into effect.

Andretti already announced last year that he wanted to set up a new Formula 1 team. However, he would initially not necessarily have been welcomed with open arms in discussions with the FIA. Now that is the case. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem welcomes the announcement of Cadillac and Andretti. He says he looks forward to “further talks” about the participation of both parties.

Formula 1 has been trying for years to gain a foothold in the United States. An Andretti-Cadillac F1 team would fit in well as an all-American combination. The American fan base is already growing, partly thanks to the addition of Miami and this year Las Vegas to the F1 calendar, but also because of Haas F1, which also operates under the American flag. In addition, the Netflix series ‘Drive to survive’ has fueled the love for Formula 1 in America. Now it is only a matter of waiting for the next American Formula 1 driver. Colton Herta seems to be the clear favorite, also with Andretti. This season, young American Logan Sargeant will make his F1 debut with rearguard team Williams.
