Partly thanks to the mediation of Techzle Campers, Restaurant Vlaar in ‘s-Graveland was able to deliver meals in ten caravans and campers on its own property last weekend: it was decent lunch and dinner in the parking lot.
Police and law enforcement came to take a look, but the creative restaurant owner Arlo Vlaar could not do anything: his business was closed to guests due to corona and he simply delivered takeaway to people’s homes. The fact that this “home” involved ten campers and caravans in his own parking lot was a side effect that made the opening of De Telegraaf this morning – even The New York Times got wind of it.
Arlo Vlaar got the idea for “Camper Dining” when a couple took a “take away” from his shop and started eating it right in front of his shop – comfortably in the back seat of their classic Daimler. “I wanted to put that idea into an enlarged version,” he says. “But how? In construction chain, I thought at first, but that is not so romantic. Campers were a better idea. People could rent them from us for a few hours. Ultimately, contacts with the makers of Techzle Campers yielded the right inputs; their sales manager Baptiste Vermeulen was able to poke his relations to make their material available. ” Those participants were Booij Campers Almere, Camptoo from Amsterdam and ACB Almeers Caravan Company. Along the rather busy Noordereinde in ‘s-Graveland, couples and families have celebrated an unforgettable Mother’s Day in a camper, caravan or under the awning in front of the door. All tables were sold out. Vlaar: “We could have parked four times as many campers, so much interest was there.”
