Can a pony jump over a 2-meter jump without hitting the beam?

Answer

Dear Laura,

It is unlikely that a pony can jump over a 2 meter jump. The world record high jump by a horse is 2 meters and 47 centimeters and that was established in 1949. On the link below you can find a video of that achievement. As you can see in the video, this was a horse and not a pony.

The highest jump by a pony is said to have been taken in the 1960s. Stroller, a 145cm pony is said to have jumped a height of 2m and 3cm, but there is no official record of that record. On the attached link to the photo you can see Stroller jumping over a 1 meter and 70 centimeters hurdle during the 1968 Olympics.

So it is not completely impossible for a pony to jump over a height of 2 meters, but it would be very exceptional.
