Can-Am makes a comeback in motorcycle market

We only know Can-Am for those quirky three-wheelers, as well as ATVs and side-by-sides, but there was a time when they made serious two-wheelers too. And so we can say that Can-Am is about to make a comeback. Cam-am has announced the arrival of an electric motorcycle.

You might not say it, but there was a time when Bombardier subsidiary Can-Am was a serious motorcycle manufacturer. Using Rotax-built engines, Can-Am was successful in off-road in the 1970s from scratch. In the early 1980s, the production of Cam-Am engines was transferred by Bombardier to the acquired CCM-Armstrong, until the British manufacturer closed its doors in 1987.

Now Can-Am is working on a new series of two-wheelers, which will be fully electric. This was to be expected, as Can-Am bought e-Bike manufacturer Alta in 2019 and showed off some concept bikes that fall. It was quiet for a while due to COVID-19, but it seems the industry is ready to get back on track after two years of chaos.

In a video posted to YouTube, Can-Am Brand appears to be showcasing a wide variety of electric motorcycles, including a cruiser, muscle bike, naked bike, and adventure bike, where Can-Am’s previous lineup actually consisted only of Trail or MX bikes.

Can-Am says the new machines will be out sometime in 2024. Here’s what President/CEO José Boisjoli had to say about the move:

“As the motorcycle industry switches to electric, we saw an opportunity to reclaim our two-wheeler heritage and re-enter the market. This new product category is extremely important to us and we are pleased that Can-Am motorcycles are the first EV models in BRP’s electric range to be confirmed to consumers. Many of us have fond memories of riding the early motocross models, and now we look forward to building on the rich history of the Can-Am brand to inspire a new generation of bikers and electric vehicle enthusiasts. and impress.”
