I have been on a carb-free diet since March. I also avoid sugar and milk products. I knew my cholesterol was going down. But does it also affect the CRP? This has been at 12 or higher for 15 years and now it has dropped to 5. Could this be due to a change in my eating pattern?
Answer
Hi Anissa,
This is certainly possible. There are several studies that show that diet has an important effect on CRP.
The typical Western diet with a lot of processed meat, sweets and few fruits and vegetables can ensure a high CRP. On the other hand, a Mediterranean diet or a diet high in fruits and vegetables has a positive effect on CRP and will decrease it. This is one of the reasons why a healthy diet is important for your general health and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Kind regards,
Kathleen
