What I would really like to know is whether cervical cancer in someone who has been with the same partner for 30 years is automatically the result of a partner committing adultery.
With thanks!
Answer
Best,
You can get cervical cancer in a monogamous marriage, but what matters is the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection she once contracted.
Such an infection with HPV can happen at any age and after the infection that virus can lie dormant for years. So also in a perfectly monogamous marriage.
We do not yet know what the mechanism is that the virus suddenly reappears after years of being dormant and whether vaccination will protect against this is also not yet known.
Kind regards,
