Eighty-year-olds are the most expensive

There is a good chance that the premium of your car insurance will increase in 2023. But when is your car insurance actually the cheapest? This is what comparison site Geld.nl has sorted out.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that car insurance for younger and novice drivers is not the cheapest. Research by Geld.nl shows that premiums for car insurance are on average the least expensive at the age of 65. If we look at the broader picture, it can be concluded that the insurance premium is the least expensive between your 30th and 75th birthday.
A 65-year-old motorist in the Netherlands pays an average of €41.31 per month for his car insurance. A 25-year-old pays an average of €55.50 per month, which is 26 percent more. An 80-year-old pays even more on average for his or her car insurance: €64.64 per month.
It is striking that policyholders aged 35 pay the second lowest premium. This is because the insurance premium falls between the ages of 25 and 35, but increases again after the age of 35 because children in the car are taken into account.
In the study, Geld.nl calculated three scenarios for various age groups. In scenario one, a policyholder living in Zaandam drives a 2019 Volkswagen Polo with all-risk car insurance. Scenario two involves a 2016 Toyota Yaris with a driver from Gorinchem who has third-party liability insurance. Scenario three involves a Peugeot 508 from 2012 and a driver with liability insurance. In all cases, the driver drives 12,000 kilometers per year and has five claim-free years. In reality, the insurance premium will vary from person to person.
