September registration figures

Car registrations in September: Kia the largest, Tesla Model Y in first place

Monthly Dutch registration figures showed enormous increases this year. These are now weakening, but September was also a good month for Dutch importers. Nearly 30,000 new passenger cars were registered in September, about 17 percent more than in the previous month.

In April, May, June and July, 35, 42, 31 and 38 percent more new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands than in the same months last year. Substantial growth figures, but they were not very surprising. Due to, among other things, chip shortages and problems in the supply chain as a result of the corona pandemic, registration figures were certainly not good last year. This year, delivery backlogs are being cleared at a rapid pace and the end of catching up appears to be in sight. In August, the number of new passenger cars delivered in the Netherlands increased ‘only’ by 18.6 percent and in September the percentage growth fell to ‘only’ 16.6 percent. This is evident from figures from Bovag, Rai Association and RDC.

In September, 29,855 new passenger cars were registered in our country. With September behind us, we also know how many new passenger cars were registered in our country in the third quarter of this year: 71,011 units. This brings the total number of new passenger cars delivered this year to 286,781 units. That is 27.6 percent more than in the first three quarters of last year (224,708 copies).
