Car sharing is gaining popularity

Is car ownership a thing of the past and will we all be sharing cars soon? It is still a long way off, but the shared car is gaining considerable popularity. This is evident from the figures that MyWheels is releasing today.

Greenwheels saw the number of car sharers increase by 20 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year. Although the company has not yet presented its figures for 2022, MyWheels has. MyWheels has seen the use of its shared cars more than double over the past year.

According to MyWheels, the Dutch customer base now numbers 350,000 people, almost sixty percent more than in 2021. People in the 25-40 age group in particular would use MyWheels’ shared cars more often. Although part of that increase is due to the fact that MyWheels has merged with Amber, strikes at the NS have also resulted in an increase in the number of users. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht remain the most important cities for MyWheels, although growth can also be observed in cities such as Haarlem and Leiden, says MyWheels. MyWheels says it expects the growth in the number of users to continue this year.

Incidentally, almost 80 percent of visitors to AutoWeek.nl recently indicated that they would not be able to do without their own car. In any case, the car enthusiast does not seem ready to fully commit to the shared car and to sell their own car.
