CFMoto 800 MT at the dealer

It was already on the market in China, but this month the new CFMoto 800 MT can finally be viewed at dealers in the Benelux. The 800MT is CFMoto’s first ‘fat’ bike and is powered by KTM’s LC8c upright twin, with whom they formed a close partnership several years ago.

If you still believe that China is still the country of copy and paste, then take a closer look at this CFMoto 800 MT. It’s that we know CFMoto is Chinese, but judging by the design it might as well be ‘made in Italy’. Or at least ‘Italian Design’. Enough engines that look less appetizing than this 800 MT.

The beating heart of the 800MT is KTM’s 799cc LC8c upright twin, delivering a peak power of 95 hp at 9,000 rpm and peak torque of 77 Nm at 7,500 rpm, featuring two riding modes, Rain and Sport, traction control, cruise control, and a skid -assist link.

For those who aren’t enough electronic gadgets, the list goes even further: tire pressure monitoring, cornering ABS, adaptive lighting, turn signals with extinguishing function, fog lamps and a 7″ TFT color screen with Bluetooth connectivity and built-in navigation and an adjustable screen.

So much for the 800 MT Sport, the 800 MT Touring goes one step further with wire wheels, an up/down quickshifter, crankcase protection, handguards and heated grips and seats.

As far as the bicycle part is concerned, CFMoto has opted for a steel semi-cradle frame with a bolted subframe, also made of steel tubing, which weighs only 16 kilograms in total. Still, the bike is not really feather light. CFMoto claims a dry weight of 215 kilos, roadworthy including a full 19 liter tank, then you will go towards 235 kilos and that’s quite substantial for a mid-range engine.

The good news, however, is that CFMoto has pretty much concentrated the weight around the center of gravity and has a seat height of just 825mm, making it accessible to smaller riders too. The KYB suspension has wonderfully long suspension travel of 160 mm and is also adjustable.

The other side of the Medaille? A lot of money has to be put on the table for both versions: the 800 MT Sport sells for €12,499 (€10,999 BE), for the Touring version that is even €14,099 (€12,599 BE).
