CFMOTO 800MT-X ready for production

CFMOTO has released domestic design registrations of the upcoming 800MT-X, a more sandbox-oriented version of the 800MT that should be seen more as a big tourist. The CFMoto 800 MT-X is powered by the 799cc LC8c parallel twin from partner KTM.

CFMOTO 800MT-X ready for production

In November, CFMOTO provided a glimpse of what can be expected in the near future at the EICMA in Milan with a handful of concept bikes. One of those concepts was the MT-X Adventure bike and just a few months later we have our first glimpse of what the production version will look like thanks to official design registrations of the upcoming model.

Of course, CFMOTO has not yet released any information about the new 800 MT-X, but that does not mean that there is no information. Like the 800MT, the new MT-X will also be powered by the KTM 799cc LC8c parallel twin, which is also currently used in the current 800MT series.

CFMOTO and KTM have been partners in crime for several years, the development of the engine has been a joint project and all LC8c models are assembled in CFMOTO’s production factory in China.

The partnership between KTM and CFMOTO has previously resulted in the 800MT Touring and Sport, but they are clearly asphalt oriented, so there was quite a bit of room for a more adventurous model. Given the sales success of the Yamaha Ténéré 700, this is not a strange thought.

Although judging by the animations, the new MT-X clearly has MT genes, we also see similarities with the KTM 790 Adventure, which, like all other LC8c KTMs, is produced by CFMOTO. The low-mounted fuel tank alone seems to have been taken directly from KTM.

The design drawings show that CFMOTO has made some adjustments compared to the MT-X concept model. For example, the concept had covers around the brake discs that are missing from the animations. In addition, the Akrapovic rear silencer appears to have been replaced by a longer silencer, while small adjustments have also been made to the sheet metal here and there. The production model also appears to have a slightly thicker saddle, as well as sturdy handles for the pillion.

However, the same spoke wheels remain in sizes 21″ at the front and 18″ at the rear (19/17″ on the current 800MT models), and Brembo brake calipers at the front (J.Juan on the 800MT). Also the 8″ TFT display in portrait form from the concept model has been transferred to the production model, along with the styling and LED headlight.

At the EICMA in Milan, CFMOTO already said that the MT-X would be available “soon”, now that the design has been registered that seems to be imminent.
