In the Netherlands, just like in Belgium or the United Kingdom, it should be possible to apply for a personalized license plate, according to the PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB. The parties ask outgoing Minister Mark Harbers (Infrastructure and Water Management) in a motion to investigate this option.
Belgians can request a license plate with letters and numbers of their choice for 1,000 euros, although they must adhere to certain rules. For example, motorists can put the name of their pet or favorite movie on the license plate. “It is a bit of a gadget of our time,” says PVV MP Hidde Heutink. “Our idea is: now investigate whether we can also offer a form of this in the Netherlands.” He thinks it is an additional advantage that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management can earn money this way.
