Blame for Red Bull
Ferrari has started the new Formula 1 season insanely with a 1-2. Charles Leclerc won the race with a mighty display, teammate Carlos Sainz crossed the finish line in second after an embarrassment for Red Bull Racing.
After a nice fight with Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc won the opening race of the Formula 1 season in Bahrain on Sunday. Ferrari’s Monegask held off Red Bull’s reigning world champion several times. Verstappen ultimately did not make it to the finish. In the final laps, the Dutchman retired with what appears to be an engine problem.
Leclerc already seized pole on Saturday, confirming that Ferrari is back at the top of the field after two difficult years. The last victory of the 24-year-old driver was in 2019.
Carlos Sainz took advantage of problems at Verstappen in the final phase and thus became second, after having driven the entire race in third place. Lewis Hamilton also benefited from problems at Red Bull. Sergio Perez also retired on the final lap while trying to fend off an attack from the Mercedes driver.
Verstappen complained about the car throughout the race and lost speed in the closing laps. With three laps to go, the Red Bull driver sent his car into the pits. It is still unclear what exactly the problem was with his car.
