From small to large

You will probably have noticed at the gas station: the recent drop in fuel prices. However, of all available fuels, LPG is the only fuel whose current price is lower than at the beginning of this year. A great moment to see which LPG used cars you can buy for less than €5,000.
Dacia Sandero – €4,950
Those who want to drive cheaply will quickly come to Dacia. Even when it comes to a car on LPG, because the brand also supplies it ex-factory. After the facelift of the first Sandero in 2012, the Bi-Fuel version was only on the Dutch price list as a Tce 90. This copy has a 1.2 four-cylinder engine with 74 hp where the gas tank was probably built in later. The road tax of an average of €136 per quarter is in any case still very manageable. With a mileage of 127,095 kilometers you should also be able to move forward for some time.
Opel Corsa – €4.445
In any case, the LPG installation is not retrofitted to this Opel Corsa. Opel delivered the Corsa ex-factory as 1.2 EcoFlex Bi-Fuel. This means that the button to activate the LPG system is nicely integrated into the dashboard. An additional advantage of this was that the car had a CO2 emission of less than 110 grams per kilometer, so that it was even exempt from road tax for a while and was eligible for a lower addition. With a mileage of 195,721 this Corsa has run a bit more than the Dacia. The road tax is also slightly higher at an average of €175 per quarter. For the real mile-eaters it is advantageous that you have a range of more than 1,000 kilometers on LPG and petrol.
Mazda 2 – €4,500
Mazda supplied the Mazda 2 as BiFuel from 2011 to 2014, for the same reasons Opel did with the Corsa EcoFlex Bi-Fuel. The Mazda 2 is about the same size as the Corsa, but at €136 per quarter falls in a lower rate when it comes to road tax. This example looks pretty basic with its white unilak, black mirror caps and door handles and steel wheels with hubcaps, but then you drive very cheap. With 159,805 kilometers on the clock, he has also run relatively little for a car on LPG. With the reliability, however, you have to pay attention, because the 1.3 four-cylinder gas is not very nice.
Saab 9-3 – €3.750
Do you prefer a slightly larger car than the hatchbacks above? Then this Saab 9-3 sedan on LPG may be an option. The 2.0 four-cylinder turbo under the hood delivers on paper a power of 175 hp. This can of course be less with the built-in LPG installation. For the road tax, with an average of €334 per quarter, you lose quite a bit more than the above three cars, but you do get some comfort in return. Also useful for the entrepreneur: you can put it on the business as a youngtimer.
Volvo S80 – €3.250
Is the Saab 9-3 not big enough yet? Then you arrive at this Volvo S80. Volvo also supplied the S80 ex-factory as a Bi-Fuel, but the gas tank was retrofitted to this 170 hp strong copy. With more than 324,000 kilometers he already has a nice bucket experience and the left rear has some damage, but the front seats still look good, for example. However, old Volvos are rarely cheap in maintenance, so the money you save on the pump is best reserved for repairs immediately. Until it breaks, you can at least drive it royally for relatively little money.
