A new Chromecast is coming and it has already surfaced at the American regulator FCC. It is expected to be a cheaper variant of the current Chromecast with Google TV that can only stream in Full HD.
Chromecast HD with Google TV
Last week, Google made its Chromecast with Google TV available in more markets, including Belgium and the Netherlands. That took two years because of the worldwide chip shortage. However, the company already has plans for a new streaming stick, according to information released by the American telecommunications regulator FCC has shared.
The streaming stick is codenamed “G454V” and the product is referred to as a “Wireless Device”. That is of course a very vague term that is used for several products, but the test configuration and accompanying diagram actually reveal that it is a Chromecast. According to the description, the device is capable of “Streaming Video (1080p, 60Hz, 4:2:2,12bits)”.
Stream in 1080p
This therefore indicates that there will be a cheaper Chromecast that can only stream in Full HD resolution, unlike the 4K resolution of the current Chromecast with Google TV. We therefore expect that the price of the product will be lower than the 69.99 euros that the current Chromecast costs.
It is not the first time that information has been leaked about a new Chromecast, because at the beginning of this year the first reports surfaced, without actually knowing anything about the product. Not much later, the name ‘Chromecast HD with Google TV’ popped up and we were told it streams in 1080p resolution. The device also comes with Google TV and will probably be very similar in design to the other Chromecast. He also gets a remote control.
