Chevrolet introduces a new compact pick-up by American standards that is secretly not a Chevrolet at all. We’re introduced to the S10 Max, a Hilux-sized pickup truck that Chevrolet is now introducing in Mexico.
The model name ‘S10’ is no stranger to Chevrolet. We know the S10 in the Netherlands as a pickup brother of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and in 2022 Chevrolet also has an S10 on the international menu. Chevrolet sells a pickup with that name in South America. That Chevrolet S10 is in large parts similar to the American Chevrolet Colorado related to the Isuzu D-Max. The Mexican consumer can now also buy an S10, but that is secretly not a Chevrolet and not an Isuzu.
The Chevrolet S10 Max that plays the leading role in this article is made in China. It is in fact a Maxus T70 on which Chevrolet has pasted its own logos. Incidentally, MG also sells a variant of the T70: the now facelifted Extender. Chevrolet gives the S10 Max headlights and a grille that differs slightly from that of the T70. In the interior, the infotainment screen differs from that of the original. Under the hood is a 160 hp 2.4 petrol engine or a 210 hp eblazer 2.0. The S10 Max is in principle rear-wheel drive, but is also available with four-wheel drive. In addition, consumers have the choice of a manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic. The S10 Max is also available as a Double Cab, Cab Regular (Single Cab) and as a chassis cab.

The S10 Max is not the only Chinese car that Chevrolet has in its range in Mexico. It also sells the Baojun 530-based Captiva and the Baojun 510-based Groove. The S10 Max will later also be brought to South America where it will replace the already mentioned Colorado-related version.
