After Seat’s former CEO Luca de Meo, according to new rumors, someone would switch from Seat to Renault. The lead designer of the Spanish brand is said to be working for Renault.
The new rumors go on Automotive News Europe about Seats design boss Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. Automotive relies on sources closely involved with Seat. An unreleased announcement said Mesonero-Romanos will be leaving the brand. In that statement, Seat confirms that the chief designer voluntarily lays down his duties in Martorell, Spain.
It would not be the first time that Mesonero-Romanos has joined Renault. After joining Seat in 1995 as a designer of the Bolero concept car (the harbinger of the second Toledo and the first Leon), he joined Renault in 2001. There he put lines on paper for the coach of the Laguna Coupé. In 2011, the now 52-year-old Spaniard made the switch back to Seat. There he was at the helm of the design of the IBL concept, which later resulted in a new Toledo and Leon.
Mesonero-Romanos would not be the first CEO of Seat to join Renault this year. Early this year, CEO Luca de Meo announced his Spanish departure to take the throne at Renault. Mesonero-Romanos is rumored to be working with Dutchman Laurens van den Acker, who is responsible for the main lines of Renault’s designs.
Seat says to come with a new design boss soon. Until then, the design task rests on the shoulders of R&D boss Werner Tietz.
