Chinese manufacturer comes with bizarre four-door Corvette clone

Songsan motors SS Dolphin patent

The Chinese manufacturer Songsan Motors can’t get enough of the Chevrolet Corvette C1. AutoWeek has emerged from the depths of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of a new variant on the theme of the copied primal Corvette.

Rewind to September 2020. Then the Chinese Songsan Motors presented the somewhat unfortunate SS Dolphin during Auto China. The SS Dolphin didn’t just have a strange name. It was in fact a direct imitation of the second series of the first generation Chevrolet Corvette as it was for sale between 1958 and 1962. Songsan’s jolly dolphin car is available as a coupé and as a convertible, quite historically correct. The company also has a four-door version of the SS Dolphin in the pipeline.

These somewhat amateurish-looking patent drawings show a version of the SS Dolphin transformed into a four-door sedan. Remarkably, the four-door version seems to have a shorter nose than its two-door brothers, no doubt so that Songsan did not have to adjust the wheelbase of the SS Dolphin. We aim for the four-door SS Dolphin to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain, just like its existing body styles. The powertrain consists of a blown 1.5 petrol engine, an electric motor and a 16 kWh battery. The two-door Dolphins must be able to drive about 90 to 100 kilometers electrically and be able to reach a speed of 100 km/h in about 6 seconds.

Songsan Motors makes no secret of the fact that the SS Dolphin is very similar to the Corvette C1. It has several photos on its website showing the original. Songsan also has an MPV similar to the Volkswagen T1/T2 on offer. So all with a wink.
