The times when Chinese cars guaranteed dramatic results in crash tests are years behind us. BYD and Xpeng also prove that the safety of Chinese cars is in good hands.

Euro NCAP – the European branch of Global NCAP – has once again had the opportunity to indulge in a series of new cars. This time, three young Chinese electric cars were professionally and carefully destroyed. Two BYD models suffered: the electric Seal and the smaller but equally electric Dolphin. An EV from another Chinese car manufacturer was also subjected to all kinds of safety tests, resulting in a completely destroyed Xpeng P7.

Anyone who still fears that Chinese cars are by definition not well constructed has already been confronted with the facts. Although the Aiways U5 did not achieve a top score in 2019 with three out of five possible stars, the BYD Atto 3, the Chery Omoda 5, the Lynk & Co 01, the MG 4, HS and ZS, the Nio ES8, ET7 , ET5 and EL7, the Ora Funky Cat and the Wey Coffee 01 and 02 later all received the maximum score of five stars. The BYD Seal, BYD Dolphin and the Xpeng P7 now also join the list of Chinese models praised by the NCAP.

Take it, seal!

“The strong competition between car manufacturers is the driving force behind the good NCAP results. Car brands cannot afford to lag behind in the field of safety. BYD and Xpeng understand that European car buyers do not want to make concessions in the field of safety,” writes secretary -general of Euro NCAP Michiel van Ratingen in an accompanying letter.
