Every Netflix user sometimes suffers from it: choice stress. There are so many films and series on the streaming service that you sometimes do not know what to watch. Fortunately, Netflix has come up with a solution for this.
The streaming service is currently testing a traditional television channel in France, called Netflix Direct. When you go to the Direct menu in the Netflix app, you will find a kind of TV guide with a list of pre-programmed films, series and documentaries. For example, the documentary GIMS is scheduled for 14:58, followed by the Mortel series at 16:34. The films and series are shown in real time, just like on TV. If you missed it, there is (for now) no possibility to rewind. Of course you can look up the series or film yourself.
The idea is that you will be presented with an offer per day, with films and series from France, Europe and the United States. The programming is updated every five days based on the series and films that are popular on Netflix at that time. So not on your personal taste, as films and series are now ranked in the Netherlands.
France is one of the main markets for Netflix with 9 million subscribers, but many French people still value mainstream TV a lot. “In France, traditional television programs remain popular, because people can simply turn on the TV to watch something,” said a statement from Netflix.
Traditional TV
The Direct channel for Netflix is also a good way to introduce users to new series, which they otherwise might not be watching so quickly. “Perhaps you are not in the mood to find out something or you have no idea which films or series you might like. Or maybe you just want to be surprised. Netflix Direct is the solution “, according to the streaming service.
In France, the new function is currently only available in the web version of Netflix, so not in the app on your phone, tablet or television. The first users in France can now get started with Netflix Direct, but the TV channel will not be available to all users in the country until next month. Netflix has not said whether Direct will also be rolled out in the Netherlands or in other markets.
