Citroën Ami – In the Wild

Citroën has an electric city friend in its model range that you can already order in its home country France: the Ami. The short electric Citroën has been photographed on Dutch soil by Techzle reader Wouter Stern and that is quite special!

Stern bumped into the small electric Citroën Ami in Leiden and immediately shot two plates off it. The 2.41 meter short Ami – named after the classics of yesteryear – undoubtedly did not find its way to Leiden entirely on its own. The Citroën Ami is a piece of stubborn French transport intended purely for the city and modestly motorized. It has a 5.5 kWh small battery pack from which an 8 hp electric motor draws its zest for life. Its top speed: 45 km / h. The Ami should be able to cover about 75 WLTP kilometers

The Citroën Ami can already be ordered online in France and has a starting price of € 6,990. The Ami is also available via a subscription construction. The monthly amount to be paid is, just like for example a subscription to a smartphone, linked to the term and the one-off price that you want to tick for the product. The Ami – for the time being can only be ‘rented’ with a minimum term of 24 months – you can, for example, drive for more than € 137 per month with a maximum annual mileage of 10,000 kilometers. If you extend the term to 36 or 48 months, you pay € 105 and € 88 respectively in France. In these examples you do not pay a one-time amount for the Ami. The amount that you want to pay once is therefore completely variable up to a maximum amount of € 3,008. Anyone who pays the full 3 mille still pays € 20 per month. In time, the Ami should also be for sale for around € 6,900.

The one caught by Wouter Stern is the absolute basic version of the Ami that goes by the name Ami Ami. That Ami Blue-colored city smack has 14-inch steel wheels and has to do without external extras such as cheerful prints and trendy hubcaps. Such inner and outer extras are part of packages called Ami Pop and Ami Vibe.

To save costs, Citroën has performed a number of striking tricks. For example, only the driver’s seat can be adjusted. The side windows can be opened by folding them up, just like the 2CV. Behind the wheel is a small display, a screen on which all relevant driving information can be read. Your smartphone serves as an infotainment system in the Ami. Via the MyCitroën application, information can be requested about, among other things, the remaining range and the charge status of the battery.

Citroën tells Techzle that it does not yet know if and when the Ami will be introduced in the Netherlands. According to Dutch law, the Ami is a microcar or microcar, which means that you do not need a B driving license. 16-year-olds with a moped license can also get behind the wheel completely legally. In France, the Ami will also be available as a shared car via Free2Move at a rate of € 0.26 per minute. Here you can read more about the mischievous Ami.
