Citroën Basalt Vision: slick budget brother of the new C3

Citroën comes with a new model that you can actually immediately forget about. This week it is pulling the curtains on the Basalt Vision, a study model that serves as a preview of a car that will pass straight by on the Dutch market.

Citroën shares an image via social channels showing a piece of what it calls the Basalt Vision. The Citroën Basalt Vision looks ahead to a model that – you wouldn’t expect it – will be called Basalt. The Basalt appears to be a compact five-door hatchback with a steeply sloping roofline. A real liftback, but one that stands somewhat high on its legs. Why can you immediately forget about it if you only have an eye for cars that you can purchase in the Netherlands? Well: the Citroën Basalt is not coming our way.

Citroën describes the Basalt Vision as a ‘compact SUV coupe’ that has been specially developed for the South American and Indian markets. This suggests that the Basalt Vision is a technical brother of the C3 and C3 Aircross available in those markets, cars that also have or have had European asphalt under their wheels in a modified form. The new European C3 and the already announced new C3 Aircross intended for our market – and their electric variants – share a lot with their exotic namesakes. It cannot therefore be completely ruled out that a Basalt-like one will also come to Europe in the long term. We will know more soon.
