With its hydropneumatic suspension, the Citroën BX is more known for its comfort than for its sportiness, but today we are really dealing with a specimen hoisted up in a tracksuit. A BX 1.9 16v that stayed with its previous owner for 14 years and houses a fine leather interior: is that something for you? It’s for sale!

Please note: this is a ‘Fancier wanted’ with a blow to the arm. Normally we only highlight advertisements for cars in good condition, but because the photos of this car are so dark, we cannot say much about the condition of the coach. Nevertheless, we take the ‘risk’ of highlighting this Citroën BX here, not least because some of its sheet metal parts are made of plastic – and therefore not susceptible to rust. The recent history of the car also points to an enthusiast as the previous owner, because until recently the BX was at the door of the same person for 14 years.

He – or someone else – brought the car from abroad to the Netherlands in 2008 (fortunately just before the asymmetric license plate combinations were introduced), which readers with an eye for Dutch license plates undoubtedly already realized. It is not an original Dutchman. What it is, however, is a Citroën BX 1.9 16v, easily identified by its decent sideskirts. The 16-valve is the most potent engine Citroën put in its coach during the twelve-year existence of the BX (unless you include the BX 4TC), good for – according to license plate – 147 hp.

This makes the Citroën, which weighs approximately 1,050 kg, also quite fast by today’s standards. The 1.9 16v was therefore the model above the GTi, which had an equally large four-cylinder under its hood, but with half the valves. The 16v should be able to spear to 100 km / h in less than 8 seconds and has a top speed of over 200 km / h.

Very sporty appearance, with those side skirts and spoiler.

Black seats

Incidentally, do not expect that the BX is so much suitable for the better farm road banjeraar, because super tight handling will always remain a utopia with such a suspension system. However, the appearance of the car makes up for a lot. We couldn’t tell you what kind of wheels are underneath, but nice nineties they are sure. In addition, the car with its black-on-black color scheme has a bit sinister and the black leather interior and the font of the clock shop take you back to a bygone era.

Anyone who does get excited about this can go and see the car in Helmond – we would not buy unseen based on the supplied photos. By the way, that person must bring a small €8,000, but that is for one hot hatch from the last millennium not even that much nowadays. At sometime?
