A car really does not have to be flawless, a top version or extremely rare to earn a place in this section. We put this Citroën BX forward for other reasons.
The first reason is that the Citroën BX is simply a special thing. It already was when Citroën presented it in 1982 and in 2022 the BX is becoming more and more special. The latter is of course because there are fewer and fewer of them, but also because it is a driving design statement from bygone times. It could also become a striking car, since the BX would eventually fill the void that the GSA left behind from 1985. The BX had a difficult conception. After various design studies for a model that would initially come above the GSA in the range and later one that was to follow the more expensive versions of the GSA, Citroën decided to put its own work aside and handed over the order to Bertone. We can say that the Italian design house has succeeded in creating a characteristic model.
For the technology, Citroën did use what it already had in house. The BX therefore also received the hydropneumatic suspension system with which the brand has been throwing high for years. That gave the BX a driving comfort that the competition could only dream of and, moreover, it had been further developed in such a way that the weaknesses were largely eliminated. It was all in all no harm to Citroën: no fewer than 2.3 million BXs saw the light of day in 13 years. In its time, the BX was certainly not a rare appearance, but it was nevertheless always a striking car.
The BX had many different versions, including the GTI that was quite smooth for its time. Certainly the sixteen valve without a catalytic converter made the BX a fast thing. In the last year that you could sign for that ‘pre-cat’ 1.9, this white copy rolled off the production line. It was of a completely different order. This is because the 75 hp 1.4 TU3 engine is located here, a block that was used in many other often lighter PSA models. For example, where the Peugeots 106 and 205 and Citroëns Visa and AX made delicious tear monsters, it is a little more difficult in the BX with the 1.4. In addition, we have here a BX in the bareest possible version, devoid of luxury options that you could find in the BX at that time. It is also a white one, to complete the simplicity. That’s why it’s actually quite charming. Just an ordinary BX that hasn’t been played yet.

The car needs a little love, because the provider reports that there is a leak somewhere in the hydropneumatic system. That can cause you a lot of hassle, but maybe it’s solved in a few minutes. So you have to put up with that for a while. But hey, that’s what the price is for. €1,499 is the asking price. That is almost a pittance for a BX these days, they are increasing in value considerably. Who dares?
