Citroen DS (1972) – Into the Wild

Citroen DS (1972) – Into the Wild

The Citroën DS is really such a classic that, despite its age, you could still come across quite regularly. The ‘pikes’ are now seen less often and they are mainly spotless, immaculate (restored) specimens that have survived. However, this black one seems to have less of a fear of contamination.

Until about ten or fifteen years ago, you didn’t have to be very patient at all to spot a Citroën DS. It has always been a popular classic in our country and some copies were simply used for daily use without too much embarrassment and not brought back into the garage for every small spot. A dent here, a rust spot there, the beautiful coach also made the lesser copies a special appearance. In the meantime, the DS really seems to have disappeared from the daily street scene and the DS’s that are left are often the cars in which a lot of time and love has been invested. They are therefore kept indoors in winter and are not easily seen in bad weather.

However, thanks to colleague Joost Boers, we have a copy in front of us that seems to be handled a little less with velvet gloves. This now almost 50-year-old lady does not seem to be able to hibernate and we also see some points of attention for the bodywork here and there. That is to say: the paintwork has seen better days and here and there there are some small dents in the super-smooth body. Shame? No, it’s nice to see that there are also DS’s that simply do what they were made for: transport the passengers from A to B under all circumstances.

What is also good to see is that the DS in question is still hard at first glance. The rust ghost, a known enemy of the Goddess, seems to have been kept out. There are of course limits, probably this DS will not go on the road if there is sprinkled. In any case, the current owner also ensures that the DS remains in order under the skin, since according to our data the last MOT with a point of attention was already seven years ago. Incidentally, the owner is also loyal to the DS, because he or she has had it (her?) for over 14 years. Like many DS’s in our country, this DS 23 Pallas also spent a good part of his life elsewhere, probably in his home country France. The car came to the Netherlands only in 1994. We hope that many more years will be added, because let’s be honest: it always gets a little nicer on the road when such a DS floats by?
