Citroën Visa (1979) – Into the Wild

A Visa Découvrable recently shone in ‘In the Wild’, but we are now shamelessly putting another Visa in the spotlight. It is not just one.

After the extremely special but unfortunately somewhat neglected Citroën Visa Découvrable from a month ago, we are now focusing on a Visa that looks a lot better. We thank from the bottom of our hearts AutoWeek reader Walter van der Schoot, who sent these photos. Not only the condition of this Visa makes it a moment to be pulled on stage, but also because of what kind of Visa it is. The facelifted Visas from after 1981 are already quite rare, but you will hardly ever find such a primal Visa as this one. Not least because there were simply not that many sold before the facelift. The front, sometimes jokingly referred to as ‘pig nose’, did not last long, with the facelift the Visa got a more conventional nose.

Although the revised Visa was more acceptable according to many, we still see nice design details on such a primal Visa. Not only the special nose stands out, but also, for example, the trapezoidal decorative elements in the bumpers and the beehive pattern on the dashboard. In a sense, the Visa already had similar idiosyncratic design jokes as contemporary Citroëns. On this bright green copy, the gray bumper work also looks great and it looks very fresh all in all. It is almost inevitable that this is a Visa that has been restored to perfection.

The F-sticker on the tailgate already shows it: this is (unfortunately) not an original Dutch Visa. The previous owner got it from France and the current one apparently still likes to show where the Visa spent most of its life. It is a Visa Club and that means that behind the pig’s nose there is a 652 cc two-cylinder boxer engine with electronic ignition. Yes, a further development of the block that became large (with 602 cc) in the 2CV6. A nice characteristic sound will come from this Visa, but you should not be in a hurry. In such a Visa it is mainly about churning around nice and calm in typical old French comfort. Bon voyage!
