Citroen XM

Maybe when you think of the This one can be yours!

Citroën’s flagships have often been somewhat in the shadow of their predecessor. This was somewhat true of the Citroën CX as the successor to the revolutionary DS, but even more so for the XM, which in turn succeeded the CX. That does not alter the fact that the XM was again a wonderful creation. With its sharp carriage, styled by design house Bertone, full of windows (eleven of them at least), it was, just like its forefathers, a design statement on wheels. One that also glided particularly charmingly over the roads, because of its hydropneumatic suspension system. Just like the DS and CX, such an XM was a special appearance when you saw it ‘floating’ by.

Nowadays you rarely see that happen, because 22 years after its end you hardly stumble across it here in the Netherlands. It’s nice that one is about to be added, because this copy from 1991 is looking for its first Dutch owner. This XM is offered as a brand new import, still with its French plates on it, by a well-known name in the field of French classics. The story is that the XM has only had one owner in its home country and that the car has always been stored indoors. The mileage of only 79,821 km also indicates a quiet life.

Citroen XM

A relatively simple, but beautifully preserved interior.

If we can believe the photos, it can be seen from this Citroën XM that it has had a fairly protected existence. He really seems to still be in great shape. That is actually the only thing that makes this XM special, because otherwise it is just a gray 2.0 Comfort. A fairly unobtrusive colored and executed example. For an XM it’s actually a pretty simple one. Here in the Netherlands, only the nameless basic version was still listed here at the time. At the same time, it is also nice that such a fairly modest XM has aged so beautifully. You just pay a lot for the condition of the car, because the asking price is €9,950 and then you have to take into account that even such a beautiful XM will probably have some technical gremlins for you sooner or later.
