Classic Range Rover goes electric

We have seen more and more classics with a fully electric powertrain recently. The original Range Rover is now also available with a fully electric powertrain. The first generation Land Rover Range Rover gets an electric heart from the English Lunaz.

SUVs, with their high ground clearance and large dimensions by nature, have proven to be the ideal body shape for hanging large battery packs. Brands such as Audi, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz actually tested the concept of the fully electric car for the first time with the E-tron, i-Pace and GLC respectively, and the English Lunaz sees no reason why the European primal SUV needs a electrical handling. The company is announcing a range of first-generation fully electric Land Rovers Range Rover.

Lunaz will initially convert 50 full Range Rovers of the first generation (1970-1994) into EV. The company is still keeping technical specifications under its cap. However, the manufacturer, which is currently already spooning electric powertrains into classic Bentleys, Jaguars and Rolls-Royces, says that it will produce the original electric Range Rover in two flavors: Town and Country. In the Town version, extra attention is paid to comfort, according to Lunaz. This version will be available with both short and long wheelbase. The Country flavor is strongly focused on actual off-road use. Every Range Rover that can be converted into an EV is first completely restored. You can also turn to Lunaz to have your Range Rover converted into a convertible.

The electric Range Rovers are not going to be price packs. Lunaz has already released a starting price of € 270,000, excluding taxes. The first copies of the electric Rangers series will leave the production line next year.
