Classic Toyota Land Cruiser as EV

The J70 generation Toyota Land Cruiser seems to have been given an eternal life. The model, introduced 37 years ago, has now been converted into a fully electric off-roader.

The Toyota Land Cruiser (J70), originally introduced in 1984, is still on the sales lists in South Africa and Australia. The now 37-year-old model has been converted into an EV by the Product Planning and Development department of Toyota Australia. However, the electric workhorse does not go around the world. Toyota Australia is starting a pilot project in which the electric Land Cruisers will be deployed “on a mining site” in western Australia.

The electric Land Cruisers 70, designed as a pick-up with a single cabin, is used underground, among other things. They are part of plans to reduce the company’s emissions by 30 percent by 2030, according to Toyota Australia. Technical specifications are not yet known. Within a few months, Toyota Australia will release more information on this.
