Doubling bpm on fuel cars

Fuel will become more expensive and the bpm on fuel cars will be doubled if it is up to the Minister for Climate, Rob Jetten. That understands the NOS from coalition sources. However, there is no support in the cabinet for Jetten’s current plans.
Fuel prices are still relatively high and then the old excise duty will apply again on 1 July. Then it will be a bit more expensive at the pump, but if it is up to Rob Jetten, there may be an extra shovel as of 2024. According to the NOS Jetten has a proposal on the table stating that petrol and diesel must be mixed with biofuel, which would drive up the price by 5 to 10 cents per litre. In addition, there is a plan to double the bpm (purchase tax) that is levied on new fuel cars.
The aim of these plans: fewer kilometers driven for fuel cars and fewer sales of new fuel cars. This in the context of the climate goals that Jetten must monitor as Minister for Climate and Energy. The plans should also ensure that more money flows to the treasury, because the purchase subsidies for electric cars and at the same time the lack of fuel excise duty on electric cars cost the government money. The plans cause division within the cabinet and ‘several parties’ want Jetten to add water to the wine, reports the NOS.
