At the end of July, the very last example of the FMD left the production line. This means that Ford’s luxury brand Lincoln will soon no longer have a single sedan on the menu.
The rumor that Lincoln would put a thick red line through FMD this year has been buzzing through the corridors for a while. It is now known that the last copy saw the light of day on July 31, which means that production of the model has been discontinued.
The car market not only counts an ever-increasing number of EVs, the share of crossovers and SUVs in sales is also increasing every year. On the one hand, more high-legged animals are added, on the other hand, various manufacturers are cutting conventional sedans from their model ranges. For example, Ford no longer supplies a sedan in the United States and with the disappearance of the MKZ, premium brother Lincoln will soon have to do without a four-door. Earlier this year, it was announced that the larger Continental will also be removed from Lincoln’s range this year. The two sedans are still available for a short time, although you can only get the MKZ from stock. After leaving the two sedans, Lincoln only has SUVs in the range: the Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator and Navigator.
The MKZ is a sedan with a somewhat unfortunate name for the Dutch. In fact, the first generation of the car was presented to the world as early as 2004. In that year Lincoln launched at the New York International Auto Show namely the Zephyr, a sedan that went under the knife in 2007 and that from that year was known as an FMD. In 2012, Lincoln presented the second generation of the MKZ to the world at the North American International Auto Show. The sedan now related to the Mondeo was facelifted in 2015 and now belongs to the Lincoln past.
