Cloth falls for special Nissan NV Cargo and NV Passenger

Nissan is sweeping through its commercial vehicle range in the United States. The entire current range of vans will go out of production in the summer of next year, putting an end to the unconventional NV Cargo and NV Passenger by Dutch standards.

In the United States, Nissan supplies the NV200, the petrol engine-equipped variant of the E-NV200 Van known here. That car will go out of production in the United States from the summer of next year, the brand will stop supplying its regular commercial vehicles in the foreseeable future. This also means that NV Cargo and NV Passenger will disappear from view, cars that deserve to be lifted onto the podium one more time.

The NV Cargo and NV Passenger, the latter being the passenger version of the former, is a strikingly lined commercial vehicle that Nissan presented in 2011 specifically for the American and Canadian car markets. Commercial vehicles manufactured in the US state of Mississippi and the Mexican state of Aguascalientes have a hood that is much less aligned with the hood than their European equivalents. This gives the NV Cargo and NV Passenger a high nose with a remarkably flat bonnet. The buses are in all cases 6.11 meters long and have a wheelbase of no less than 3.71 meters. The platform of the Nissan Titan, a pick-up comparable to the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, is hidden under the skin. This Titan technology not only ensures that the NV Cargo and NV Passenger are rear-wheel drive, but also that they have two engines that you will never, ever find in a European van.

The NV Cargo is available as NV1500 with a 4.0-liter V6, a six-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 265 hp and 381 Nm. The petrol engine coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission is also available for the NV2500 Heavy Duty, a version of the NV Cargo with a higher payload (1,425 kilos). But now it comes. That NV2500 is just like the NV3500 HD placed above it, which has a payload of about 1,800 kilos, also available with a mighty 5.6-liter V8. Yes, an eight-cylinder in a delivery van. That machine delivers 380 hp and 525 Nm of torque. The NV Cargo is also available with a raised roof. NV Passenger is the passenger version of NV Cargo and can accommodate up to twelve passengers. This commercial vehicle is also available with both the V6 and the V8.

NV Cargo, NV Passenger and NV200 will therefore retire soon. Nissan thus cuts away almost its entire commercial vehicle family in one smooth movement. The brand is replacing it with its Business Advantage program, although this is more of a program in which the brand houses its ‘business’ models. In any case, we will not see NV Cargo and NV Passenger again and with that a colorful set of company cars disappear from the car country. Always a shame.
