The coalition agreement states that the tax-free kilometer allowance will go to €0.23 in 2024, but the CNV union thinks that is too late. Due to the high fuel prices, the union wants this compensation to apply as soon as possible.
The current tax-free kilometer allowance (or travel allowance) has been set at €0.19 per kilometer since 2006. Over the past sixteen years, however, driving has become more expensive and certainly with today’s fuel prices, such compensation is no longer as generous as it once was. That is a thorn in the side of CNV, reports Radar† Last week, FNV already argued for a travel allowance for all workers, now the other large union wants the allowance to go up as well.
Because of the high fuel prices, CNV also calls on employers to be ‘generous’ towards employees when it comes to working from home. According to CNV, a third of employers would now ask staff to come back to the office, but ‘working from home is a good way to avoid high petrol prices’, according to the union. Union De Unie opposes Radar However, working from home is not an ideal solution due to the high energy costs and, like CNV, calls for a higher kilometer allowance and, moreover, a reduction in fuel excise duty.
