Coastrunner EV is Dutch, modern Méhari-like

Before we update you on the Coastrunner EV, let’s rewind to 2008, when AutoWeek first featured the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS. A four-seat supercar with a steel folding roof, a Lamborghini-like interplay of lines and the 6.2-liter V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette as the beating heart. It was the creation of the Dutch Savage Rivale, a design studio led by Emile Pop and Justin de Boer.

Unfortunately, it soon became quite quiet around the Roadyacht GTS and it only made the news again in 2016 when the Japanese GLM wanted to take the car into production. Not long after, the car was presented as the GLM G4, of which about 1,000 copies were eventually built. Savage Rivale meanwhile shifted his focus to the maritime sector, but is now once again plunging into the automotive industry. With this Coastrunner EV it is back in the car world again.

According to Savage Rivale co-founder Emile Pop, development of the Coastrunner EV began about three years ago. Again it is a car for a niche market, it seems that the focus is again on the jet set. The Coastrunner EV is somewhat reminiscent of the Roadyacht GTS from the front, but otherwise it is a completely different car, with a largely open body and a fabric hood. It is a contemporary interpretation of the Citroën Méhari, with an electric powertrain. Despite that powertrain, the Coastrunner EV weighs only 800 kilos, offers space for four adults and should be able to cover about 180 km with a full battery. The top speed is 120 km/h, sufficient to be able to use the Coastrunner EV in addition to being on or just next to the beach.

There are no more specifications at the moment, but Pop informs AutoWeek that the production of the first twenty copies has already started. We are curious whether the Dutch can achieve more success with the Coastrunner EV than with the Roadyacht GTS!
