If Safari is your favorite browser on the Mac, you can make it a lot more practical by customizing the toolbar. In this tip, we’ll show you how.
This is how you can customize the Safari toolbar
Safari’s toolbar is always on screen, making it a useful tool for placing a number of buttons. Because everyone uses Apple’s browser in their own way, you can design this bar completely according to your own taste.
For example, you can place a button that takes you directly to your iCloud account, or you can add a button that allows you to make the letters of a website larger or smaller at lightning speed. You open the window to add or remove the buttons as follows:
- Open Safari on your Mac;
- Click on ‘View’ in the top menu bar;
- Select ‘Customize toolbar’;
- Select the buttons and drag them to a place in the bar;
- Click on ‘Done’ to save your settings.
This way it is also very easy to reset the default settings afterwards. To do this, follow the steps above and drag the entire ‘standard set’ at the bottom of the window to your top bar in Safari.
Tip: use Flexible Space
If you like to keep the buttons organized and tidy, you can use the ‘Flexible Space’ button. This will add a white space to the bar, so that you can put certain buttons together.
By default there are buttons in this bar from Apple itself, but for external apps it is also possible to create a button for this. For example, a password app like LastPass has an extension that lets you open your password vault directly from Safari. Handy if you regularly log in to different sites.
